Emotions are Energy in Motion - So Let Them Move!

Everything that has ever happened in your life since birth, has been stored in your body energetically.  Things you don’t remember and things that you do, are lingering as energetic imprints in your body.  What isn’t dealt with in the moment, is left to linger.  Like dust on a shelf, but in your body.  And as you can imagine, it adds up.

I heard a great quote from author and thought leader Penache Desai, who said “emotions are energy in motion”.  This means that when something sparks emotion in us, the natural way to deal with it is to allow them to flow through us and out.

Much of the time however, emotions are held back and left to lurk in our bodies waiting to be expressed. Maybe there isn’t the time to let our emotions out in the moment, or maybe we were told that it was weak to show emotion.  For whatever reason, if unexpressed, these emotions sit there and can eventually wreak havoc on our mind and body.

In my Reiki healing practice, I see the stuck emotions as sort of an invisible veil over the body.  They may be felt as heaviness, or hopelessness, or irritability that you can’t quite discern as to why you feel.  Sometimes it is hard to make the connection between what you are feeling now to a moment of trauma from your past.

Not living your truth can also take its toll on the body.  If you are stuck in a situation that is constricting to your energy body, whether it is stressful, dangerous, or just unsatisfying, this constricts your energy flow and creates clogs in your system.  Or if you grew up in an environment with strict beliefs, and weren’t allowed to express your unique self, you likely have restrictions in your energy body.

Sad emotions can get stored up, and layered enough in your body that they may become depression.  Or, sadness and despair may be released as something deemed more appropriate and less “weak”, such as anger or irritability.   Every time something happens that triggers the previously held emotion or trauma, and again we hold it in, it adds yet another layer of constricting energy in the body.

An unattended emotional wound inside of us may be vented toward a situation that has nothing to do with the initial wound, but because we were “triggered”, we mistakenly blame the current situation.  When something triggers us, it really should be looked upon as an opportunity to self-reflect and self-heal.  Yet often, the gaze is fixed upon the person or situation that triggered you, and by looking outward with blame, you ignore the deeper issue, which is the core wound once again, trying to be revealed and released.

This is why our unhealed wounds cause so many problems in our relationships.  So often it has nothing to do with our partner, but with unfelt emotions in our bodies from way before them, that have been buried.  Instead of using a provocation as a way to free those buried emotions, we use it as a tool to blame someone else for why we feel bad, when it really has nothing to do with them.  And everything stays buried.

Throughout our lives, “the body keeps the score” (a great book by Bessel van der Kolk, M.S.), as the body eventually displays signs of those buried emotions and trauma.  Dense and constricting energy can create problems in the physical body that may not be completely curable through conventional medicine.

This may explain all the auto-immune illnesses and other ailments for which they cannot really “find” the source or the cure.  I had a debilitating autoimmune illness in the form of rheumatoid arthritis and fibromyalgia for many years in my 30s, before I began deep energetic and emotional healing.  Now the pain is gone and has been for years.

What I’m saying is this.  It is possible to deeply heal and release those trapped emotions.  Is it easy?  Well, it doesn’t take surgery, so in that sense it is easy.  However it does involve allowing those memories and feelings that you may have stuffed away in hopes to never feel or see again, to come up.  It may involve some body movement, meditation, energy healing, and alternative healing methods.  It may involve writing out traumatic experiences you can recall, to help release them from your body.  It may involve forgiving people for hurting you, having conversations and opening up to people in your circle, or enlisting the help of a coach who is trained to help.

Is it worth it?  100%!

When you clear out the dense, heavy energy and emotions from your body, there is a lightness and expansiveness that is palpable.  When the energy is freely flowing again, the body has the space and energy to heal the physical ailments that you may have incurred.  When our body and spirit are free of what was constricting and what no longer serves us, our soul is free to fully express our whole self.

When we live through our whole self, everything is better.  We are no longer restricted by whomever is around us and whatever may “trigger” us, because nothing is taken personal anymore.  We don’t feel shame to be exactly who we are, and nothing holds us back from expressing our unique self and living the life we want. We feel alive in our body and are motivated to take care of ourselves, because we have hope and look forward to each day.  We no longer hold on to what doesn’t serve us or live to please others.  We honor ourselves and do what feels right for us, regardless of what others may think.  We feel our feelings when they come up and allow them to release, because after all, emotions are energy in motion.  So naturally, we let them move.

I write this to give you a little understanding, and a lot of hope.  It is possible to live a healthy life unencumbered by the past, hopeful for the future, and fully present in life as it unfolds.  This is the life you were meant to live.  You didn’t just come here to survive in discomfort until you die.  You came to be fully alive and to thrive.  And you can.
